Highheels to Gumboots

Welcome to my story. I am just a girl from a small town in northern Alberta who grew up on a small acreage with a wonderful family. We didn’t have anything that would resemble farming at our place other than cats that were always to fat and loved to care about catching mice. We had a couple dogs and some fish but simply just loved to live out of town being able to act as ourselves, garden and live a life of love and family. I way to soon grew up and moved away to university and during those years met a wonderful guy who has now become my husband. We settled down is a little town outside of Regina, Saskatchewan to keep away to the busy streets and find a place we could call home. I had a wonderful job, a beautiful home we had just renovated, a life I loved filled with family and friends. Everything changed one day when my dear hubby came to me and asked a question… How would you feel if we were to start farming with my family in Manitoba? But… but... What about our life here?

It took many days of sorting out feelings and the logistics of how it would even work. Eventually we made the hard decision that yes we would give farming with his family a go. They say, you can take the boy from the farm but you can’t take the farm from the boy so off we go to the rural areas of Manitoba. Packing all of our worldly belongings into boxes and bags, we left behind many friends, our beautiful house that we called home and we head out with hopes and dreams of becoming farmers. Although I have had some exposure to "farm life" growing up visiting grandparents farm and then later on visiting the in laws farm on weekends, there is nothing that can really prepare you for the difference between 'city life' and 'farm life'!!! Come join me on the adventures of becoming a 'farm wife'.
